Archetype Software Limited
Archetype FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):

Why is the software called Archetype?

Archetype is an English word (pronunciation ARK-E-TYPE) that seemed like a good idea when we launched it 4 years ago. ar·che·type ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ärk-tp) - noun
An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned. An ideal example of a type; quintessence: an archetype of the successful entrepreneur. In Jungian psychology, an inherited pattern of thought or symbolic imagery derived from the past collective experience and present in the individual unconscious.

How can I buy Archetype?

Archetype Software Limited do not sell Archetype directly. It is sold by a number of dealers.
See the How to buy page.

How much does it cost?

Archetype is sold on a per user basis and it is essential that everyone in your office uses it. The total cost will depend on the number of users and the cost of any installation and training that you require.
Contact one of the dealers for a quotation.

Do I need any other software to run Archetype?

The Archetype CDROM contains everything you need to run Archetype. No other software is necessary other than your CAD system for producing your drawings. In fact when you use Archetype, you may not require as many Microsoft Office licenses since many users will be able to produce all the documents they require using Archetype alone.

How much training is necessary?

Usually 2 training sessions for each user (in small groups) is required. The training sessions take 2-3 hours and there is usually 2-4 weeks between the 2 sessions. At the end of the 1st session, users are asked to try the relevant parts of Archetype using dummy projects prior to the 2nd session. There is a good help file and your Archetype dealer will provide telephone and e-mail support to help you get started.

How do we implement Archetype in our office?

Guidance on implementing Archetype is provided during the training sessions. Normally offices 'go live' with Archetype between 4 and 8 weeks after it has been installed. Some offices have 'gone live' a few days after the 1st training session.

What about our existing contacts and project data?

Archetype staff will import your existing contacts data from Outlook, Access, Excel or any program that uses standard data formats, free of charge. If you have project data such as project numbers, clients, titles or descriptions of projects in a standard data format, we will also import that free of charge.

How can we import existing documents?

Existing documents of any type can easily be imported into the Archetype document register.

Archetype links to Autocad and Microstation title blocks but what about other CAD systems?

The Archetype drawing register will work with any file based CAD system, it can even be used for other file types such as Word, VIZ, 3DStudio, Excel, BMP, JPG, GIF files etc. The only thing it will not do is automatically update any title blocks.
